Installing Crystal Chandelier the Safe Way

At times crystal chandelier can be our top choice for a home décor, while the outside appearance of the piece is pretty much well documented; the hardship of installing it on our own can be very daunting. Installing a crystal chandelier requires careful attention to detail. Because chandeliers are often heavier than other forms of lighting, it is essential that you perform these steps accurately. Sometimes, they are damaged because the owner does not know how to install them and the end point is accidental damages can be seen. So here are some guidelines that can further help you on installing your crystal chandelier the best and right way.

Start with the Basics

Of course you need to know more about your crystal chandelier, so knowing the basic will be one of the first priorities on it. First off, determine the weight of your new chandelier. If it nearly matches the weight of your current lighting fixture, do not replace the ceiling junction box. However, if the chandelier is heavier than your current fixture, purchase and install a junction box that will support the chandelier’s weight. Its weight is important for you to measure exactly where it would fit. I think that more to a fact crystal chandelier’s measurements should be taken note of so that you can determine what to do when installing them.

Safety First

To ensure the safety, you first need to shut off power to the circuit feeding the chandelier. Use a circuit tester to verify the electricity is off. You don’t want to be electrocuted while fixing your crystal chandelier, being on the safe side would definitely be a good plus. Remove the old light fixture. As you are performing this step, note how the fixture was installed and mark the wires with tape. If necessary, install the new junction box now. You always need to be sure on your work, do take note on the wires and its functions and connections to avoid mismatches that can result to accidents or worse damage to your crystal chandelier.

Putting it together

Now you need to attach the hardware from the new crystal chandelier to the mounting strap. If there is no mounting strap, install one. Screw the mounting strap to the junction box. Wire the new chandelier in the same manner as the former fixture. Connect wires with matching colors. Remove about 1/2 inch of insulation from each new wire before attaching it to the corresponding ceiling wire. Once you have twisted the wires from the new chandelier to the ceiling wires, twist on wire nuts clockwise. That will pretty much help you with the installation process of your crystal chandelier.
